Canadian Geese Migration

Today, i am talking about the Canadian Geese Migration.
The Canada goose might be found in most places north of the Equator,
and even New Zealand, except Asia.
They travel south to keep warm. In the spring, they return north
Canada geese eggs are fist sized, with tiny holes so the gosling can
 breathe.

There are geese flying overhead right now, and the other day there
were about 100 geese at the city lake!

Mennonite press, Newton, Ks

Hi everyone! Today I'm talking about Mennonite press located near the Newton Kansas
Airport.
We went a couple weeks ago to print a report there for Dad and Mom's business, and we got a tour
of the press. It was so cool! First we saw them color printing a magazine using
big metal plates. The plates had the color printed onto the metal and transferred it to the paper.
 It was really cool!

The different colored plates
 The printing room
Then we saw them gluing the covers of books to the pages, that were actually
4 huge pieces of paper folded up, you couldn't read the book yet because it was
still connected. Then, we saw them
cut the extra paper off and then we could read it. And then we saw them stapling
pamphlets together. They also had a meeting room / library with lots of the books
they had printed. It was lots of fun to look around and I hope to do it again sometime.

Battle of Blackjack

Last weekend I went on a campout with the Boy Scouts to Blackjack
Battlefield near Baldwin City, Ks. We actually got to reenact on the Battlefield
where the soldiers fought.

Now for a little background on the story...
In 1854, the U.S. Government passed the Kansas-Nebraska Act which gave the
people the right to choose whether they wanted to be a free-state, or
a slave-state. On May 21, 1856, Henry Pate, along with 750 Pro-slavery
men sacked Lawrence Ks, and destroyed the Free-state Hotel.
On June 2, 1856, John Brown and 29 others attacked Pate and his men at
Blackjack creek near Baldwin City. Pate had already captured 2 of John Brown's
sons which probably just made him mad. After 3 hours of fighting and shooting
Pate's horses, the white flag went up and Pate surrendered, and John Brown won.

More about the campout. We went for two days and nights. We had so much fun!
I can't wait till next time.
 Breakfast anyone?

Maple leaf festival

Last weekend I helped the Boy Scouts with the annual Maple Leaf
Festival in Baldwin City, Ks. Every year thirty to forty thousand people come there
over the weekend. There are craft booths, bake sales, and fundraisers. Food
included roasted corn, turkey legs, funnel cakes, hot dogs, and bratwursts.

I helped the Boy Scouts park cars, and pick up trash.
There were tons of trash cans and dumpsters all over downtown
Baldwin City. Some other Boy Scouts and I went around and
replaced the filled trash bags with empty ones, and put the filled ones
in the dumpsters. Parking was 5 dollars at the Boy Scout cabin, and the school,
both of which the Boy scouts ran. We raised a ton of money which we (the Boy Scouts)
will use to go on camping trips. Later this week I will be going on a campout
and will be doing a pre-Civil War reenactment of the battle of Blackjack.
